What’s going on here?

In the spirit of the last couple of years, in 2011 we again take part in Extra Life – the charity marathon during which we’ll try to tackle playing video games for 24-hours straight. Thanks to this incredible undertaking, gamers worldwide raised over $750000 since its inception in 2008, and this year, we’ll do our best to double this amount!
This is why, on October 15, 2011, we’ll yet again ask you for your donations! 100% of funds raised by us will go directly to our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital – the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.

Additionaly, on the day of the event, you’ll be able to watch our live video feed, right on this very page, thanks to the magic of the internet!

Why should I finance your fun?

All your donations go straight to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children. We don’t make a single penny on it. Playing video games on the internet is only a way of getting your attention. Now that we succeded, please consider donating. (You know you want to). If you don’t want to part with your money, you can join the fun by hosting a gaming marathon of your own. Just register at extra-life.org and play video games for 24-hours straight on October 15. When you register, you’ll get your very own donation page that you can use to accept donations from your sponsors!

What is that all about?
In 2009, we (that’s me and my friends) took part in the Extra Life charity event to raise money for pediatric cancer research and treatment. It was fun. In 2010 we’re doing it again and our goal this year is to raise as much money as possible for the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh. Our means of doing it are a little bit different than you might expect, though, because Extra Life is a 24-hour video game marathon.
We are looking for sponsors willing to donate $1 (unfortunately the donation page converts all amounts to dollars) for every hour of our marathon, for a total of $24 (or about £12-15 in real-money™). Of course, we also appreciate donations of any other value, be it a million pounds or five million pounds; and 100% of money raised will go directly to our local Edinburgh hospital! Last year, our small, 5 person group, raised over £200 pounds, just a fraction of the total £290 000 raised by all participants! We’d love to double that amount this year!

Why should I pay YOU to play video games?

What’s in it for you/me?
Personal satisfaction. We might also go to heaven or reincarnate as higher beings or something. (You’re doing good.) No monetary compensation involved.

My wallet’s empty, but I want to help anyway. Anything I can do?
Yup! A few things. One, tell your friends about us! The more people that learn about Extra Life, the more cash we can raise for this righteous cause! You can also become an Extra Life volunteer yourself by registering at extralife.sarcasticgamer.com, raising funds in your local area and then playing a video game marathon of your own on October 16. …And if you think that’s too much hassle, just play us online! Feel free to join us on Playstation Network, XBox Live, Wii, battle.net and Steam.

How do I know you’re actually doing it?
You can stalk us on this very page! On the day of the event we’ll launch a live video broadcast of the whoooole thing. There will also be a chat window so you can put words in it and we’ll read them or something. You can use that to invite us to play the game of your choosing with you… provided we own it as well :)

Soooo, when’s that again?
The 24-hour Extra Life game-a-thon starts on the 15th of October 2011 at 8:00 in your local timezone, but we’ll be starting off at 9:00 BST. That’s when we’ll start our live feed as well.
